Advent Begins!

Advent has begun! For the month leading up to Nativity, we prepare for this most joyous holiday.

This year, I put together some Scripture readings for each week, as well as Nativity Eve and Nativity Morning -- they'll be up on the blog as we enter each week, with the final week and Nativity readings posted on the last Saturday of Advent. Here is the first!

The best known hallmark of Advent is the lighting of one candle each week. Since this year is Sai Rhavë's year and each week begins on Rhavedi (Saturday) this year, we mark Advent on the four Saturdays until Nativity (28 Astraea/25 Dec).

But lighting candles is just one aspect of Advent! Throughout the month, we strive to do better spiritually, putting aside petty behaviors we have accumulated through the year, praying, and contemplating the spiritual wealth of Nativity. There are a few prayers we bring out just for Advent, such as the Advent Novena, that we use to adorn this season as we adorn our homes with festive decorations. The Mother God page has an adapted carol. And of course, it would not be complete without reading the Holy Mythos that describes this wondrous event!
