Festival of Artemis
Today is the Festival of Artemis!
This festival is wonderfully described in the 4th edition of the ECE:
"It
is thus on Her ancient festival that we celebrate Dea as helper and
protectress of Her devotees on earth . . . Our Lady Artemis is the
Daughter as Protectress and Guide of all Her worshippers and of those
who are seeking Her in the dark . . . She Who ‘calls us out’ (ek-kaleo
hence ‘Ekklesia’) from attachment to the material realms into Her
family. ...For Artemis is ever active in the search for Her lost
children."
Until this year, I had never heard of this festival,
but I really like the meaning of it. There really isn't much information
on the holiday except for what is presented in the ECE entry on it,
which is itself a compilation of entries from an old magazine known as
the Coming Age. It seems the primary activity of the day is the
prayerful hope for the expansion of our faith.
