A Pale & Dimmed Reflection

"And truly, all sweetness is the far-blown scent of this Sweetness; and all beauty is the pale and dimmed reflection of this Beauty; and all music but the faint and distant echo of this Music." Temple of the Heart v15

Learning to break up longer passages at last!

I love this verse: the mental image the verse sketches for us, the Reality it describes, the call it sends to remember that what we have & see here with us--all the glories of earth--are but shadows of heavenly splendour (4:3:35). And we have some truly breathtakingly beautiful things on earth with us! Music that can sweep you away, stunning vistas and art and living beings, the fragrance of your favourite flower or the smell of baking bread--undeniably wondrous things exist in this world. And all that is but a fraction of what lies beyond the reach of our human senses, what lies beyond the veil between us and the next world.

In spring and summer, a Filiani spends a lot of time appreciating this world; particularly the flowers that bloom during this time. Truly our Mother loves us and is good to us: even in this world that we perceive so dimly we are still given beauty in abundance, sweetness in plenty, and music in many and varied forms. Beyond the travails and heartaches, we are surrounded by the glory of the heavens, the trees, the earth, and all the living things in it. Take time to stop and smell the roses: Floralia is coming soon!
