Happy Helati!

Happy Summer Solstice!

At the height of summer (mid-summer), the longest day of the year, we remember those who have gone before us. Solstices in the pre-Christian world were points of the year when the otherworld and the next life may be more easily apprehended than at other times. Ancestors and spirits were particularly active during the summer, bringing fertility to the land and animals, so if you weren't careful you might run right into them during the course of your day!

While a Hera is, strictly speaking, a soul that had great spiritual achievement in this life before passing on rather than being a term for the general dead, we are a small faith without saints as Christianity or bodhisattvas as in Buddhism, so this holiday must necessarily expand a little beyond its intended borders!
